Job Summary

  • Performs all technical claims activities relating to workers' compensation indemnity claims, which include more complex files and may require specialized experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ascertains and verifies employment, and determines if injury arose out of (and during course of) employment.
  • Completes workers compensation status and reserve evaluation on all assigned cases.
  • Secures evidence and information by office conference, telephone, correspondence, and by assigning necessary field investigations.
  • Contacts employee by telephone, correspondence or in person, and explains workers' compensation benefits.
  • Determines nature, extent, and duration of disability; reviews with doctors; authorizes medical care and examinations; and maintains medical coordination of all claims.
  • Determines monetary value of disabilities, and authorizes weekly indemnity.
  • Negotiates settlements within extent of authority, and issues claims drafts or checks in payment of claims.
  • Contacts, investigates, and negotiates subrogation settlements on assigned cases.
  • Establishes and controls diary for file co ntrol. Assists in training Workers' Compensation Claims Representatives.
  • Maintains adjuster license in states where required. Performs other functions as assigned.

Physical Actions

  • This role, whether performed virtually or in an office setting, will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions.
  • Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift.
  • Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance.
  • Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (example others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects.
  • Ability to continuously operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift.
  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of Workers' Compensation experience required.
