Penguin Random House Proprietary Sales is seeking a sales assistant to join their creative, collaborative, and fast-paced team. Our proprietary group is responsible for working across all sales channels, and all core publishing imprints, to develop exclusive adult and children’s book editions for key accounts.
Supporting the head of the department, as well as our Director of Sales and project managers, this assistant will work to track project details, create presentations, review and route custom proofs, manage custom sample inventory, and more. This assistant will regularly attend dynamic meetings with the team and accounts, and will have consistent exposure to book production, design, royalties, and managing editorial departments all while gaining valuable project management and sales experience.
Job Responsibilities:
Administrative support for team creating exclusive book editions for all sales channels, including Barnes & Noble, Readerlink, International & Special Markets
Generate documents for project flow, customer portals, complete spec sheets
Meeting Prep: presentation creation, decks, agendas, and scheduling
Research and gather backlist book information, utilizing in-house systems and Excel
Proofing & light editing
Locate out of print books, manage sample library and track warehouse inventory
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Prior office experience
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
Ability to work well in a team and support multiple managers
Ability to work under pressure and at quick pace while adhering to and improving process
Excellent communication skills
PC proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
General interest in publishing and sales
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in book design and production
SAP proficiency
This hybrid position has in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to: receiving, organizing, and distributing book samples, attending meetings, and other necessary in-person duties as needed. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the surrounding areas (NY, NJ, CT, & PA).
The salary for this position is $48,000. Please include a cover letter with your resume. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
