Role Overview:
We're looking for a detail-oriented and dedicated HECM (Reverse) Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting residential loans, ensuring compliance with company standards, investor requirements, and all relevant regulations. You'll review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness, and work closely with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather all necessary documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loan Application Review: Adhere to guidelines while receiving and reviewing loan applications and documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness in line with HECM guidelines and policies.
- Timely Decision-Making: Maintain efficient turn times for initial decisions and condition reviews, meeting departmental expectations.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to resolve issues, evaluate risk, and address compliance concerns.
- Guideline Mastery: Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
- Loan Reworking: Adjust loan terms as needed and identify additional conditions to support sound credit decisions.
- Document Evaluation: Review and assess borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, and appraisals, ensuring all necessary documents are collected to support final loan decisions.
- Manual Underwriting: Demonstrate expertise in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about secondary market activity, practices, and industry trends that impact underwriting quality and origination.
- Effective Communication: Build and maintain positive relationships with loan originators, management, and processors.
- Technology Proficiency: Utilize MS Office products efficiently in your daily tasks.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in residential loan underwriting.
- Certifications: DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience are preferred.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of FHA/HECM policies, fraud detection tools, and mortgage processing.
- Skills: Proven ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners, and experience with repurchase response and rebuttal review.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong skills in reporting, analyzing, interpreting data, and critical thinking.
Work Environment:
- Remote Work: This is a primarily remote position. You will need a quiet, dedicated workspace at home and reliable internet access.
- Travel: Some local travel may be required for meetings or events.
