Molding Technician 

FLSA Status:  Hourly / Non Exempt 

Reports To:  Molding Supervisor 

Direct Reports:  None 

Shift Hours: 3:30 - 11 PM

Summary

The First Electronics Corporation (FEC) specializes in the manufacture of over-molded, extra flexible, multi-conductor, fully EMI-shielded cable assemblies, harnesses and electro-mechanical assemblies custom built for military applications and harsh environments. FEC also produces electro-mechanical assemblies and systems for custom applications, all with no minimum quantity requirements. FEC is ISO 9001:2015 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified.

The First Electronics Corporation’s Molding Technician will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining molding machines to over-mold electrical cable harnesses and components. This position is also responsible for the assembly and manufacturing of various types of cables used in electrical and electronic systems and for ensuring the quality and functionality of the cables produced are up to standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:  Prior experience with IPC-620 cable manufacturing and proficiency with any of the tasks detailed below is strongly desired and a major advantage, as well as being able to communicate and share in the English language; however, is not required. Familiarity with rubber materials, cable types, connectors, and electrical components is desired but not required. The company will train in all duties required to perform the essential functions of the job

Knowledge:  Training will be provided on internal FEC/Trexon processes and systems, as required for this position. Training for the role will include reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings.

Skills:  We look for team members who demonstrate attention to detail, patience, and manual dexterity, pride of workmanship and an ability to understand training principles for proper cable and wire manufacturing techniques.

The employee must occasionally crouch, stoop, or reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Specific Position Duties

• Cable Assembly:  Perform the assembly of cables according to specific work instructions, engineering drawings, or diagrams. This includes securing gaskets, 0-rings, routing cables, and securing them with appropriate fasteners.
• Molding: Set up and start up molding machines using appropriate rubber materials such as polyurethane and elastomers. Document mold changes and machine adjustments.
• Equipment Operation:  Operate various tools, machinery and equipment required to over-mold cable assemblies, to include heat guns and molding presses. Ensure proper handling and maintenance of equipment to maximize productivity and safety.
• Safety:  Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. Comply with company policies and quality management systems.
• Collaboration:  Coordinate and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and resolve any production-related challenges. Contribute to a positive work environment by actively participating in team meetings and sharing suggestions for process improvement.
• Quality:  ensure cables meet quality standards and specifications. Identify any defects or issues, such as loose connections, improper soldering, or damaged insultation, to maintain the integrity of the final product.
• Continuous Improvement:  identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency enhancements, or cost reduction within the cable assembly process. Provide feedback and suggestions to supervisors for improving production methods, equipment, or materials.
• 5S:  Maintain and create a clean, uncluttered environment that reduces waste and optimizes productivity by following the 5S steps: sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain .
• May float and perform work assignments in other production departments if necessary.

Other responsibilities, initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required.
