The Johns Hopkins University Student Health & Well-Being practice group supports well-being, primary care and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the University. Our integrated service delivery model provides dynamic health and well-being promotion, support and programming, student disability services including guidance and resources, and in-person primary and mental health care options at our clinics as well as remote support though phone and online resources.

Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Mental Health Services (MHS) Clinician/Coordinator of Crisis and Clinical Case Management Services to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Clinical Services for East Baltimore and D.C., the Mental Health Services Clinician/Coordinator of Crisis and Clinical Case Management Services is part of a team of clinicians providing clinical and outreach services to undergraduate, graduate and professional students and learners across Johns Hopkins University.

Mental Health Services Clinicians participate in the full range of generalist clinical service delivery, and this position leverages specific expertise in crisis intervention and case management. As Coordinator of Crisis and Clinical Case Management Services, this clinician will collaborate closely with the Baltimore-based Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team (BHCST) and the MHS Clinical Case Management Team to provide crisis intervention and case management services to students and learners at the JHU Washington D.C. campus. This clinician?s direct clinical service time will mainly be focused on single session therapy, drop-in counseling, initial consultations, and groups and workshops, but may also maintain a small caseload of goal-oriented therapy clients. This clinician will serve as a consultant to other staff, contribute to professional development activities, and develop and implement group and psychoeducational interventions for clients and student populations. The person in this position works collaboratively with primary care, psychiatry, and health promotion staff, along with colleagues in Mental Health Services, to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being and that leverages students? resilience and other key skills. The person in this role will collaborate with campus partners across the University through outreach and liaison activities. Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• This position?s direct clinical service responsibilities will be primarily based at the Washington, D.C. clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services and supervision at other locations in Maryland. See minimum qualifications for required timeframes for licensure. Jurisdictions required, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland.

Direct Clinical Service (65%)

• Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
  

• Provides on-site crisis intervention in collaboration with the Baltimore-based Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team for students and learners experiencing mental health crises within the D.C. campus building. (555 Pennsylvania Avenue)
  

• In rare circumstance that all Baltimore-based BHCST clinicians are engaged in mobile crisis response, provides back-up coverage to the BHCST Access Line during business hours, answering calls and triaging crisis situations.
  

• Coordinates case management follow-up to ensure continuity of care for D.C.-based clients who need community referrals and who are entering or stepping down from hospitalization/higher level of care.
  

• Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including drop-in and single-session counseling, as well as initial consultations, intake assessments, individual counseling, and group interventions for a diverse community of undergraduate, graduate and professional students and learners.
  

• Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with treating psychiatrists.
  

• Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, psychiatric providers, primary care clinicians, case management, and disability services staff.

Outreach (15%)

• Develops, implements and integrates evaluation feedback for psycho-educational workshops and other presentations for JHU students and learners.

• Engages in opportunities for informal interactions with students to reduce barriers to counseling, which may include offering drop-in and chat hours, attending student events, and participating in a range of student-led and student-focused programs.

• Maintains a visible presence in campus community through participation in outreach and educational activities including orientation, resource fairs and community activities.

• Contributes to content for MHS social media and website content.

Collaborative and Other Activities (20%)

• Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies.
• Contributes to professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through provision of didactic training and seminars.
• Participates in clinical collaboratives and coordination meetings with the BHCST and Clinical Case Management teams.
• Participates in case consultation, student risk management, peer chart reviews, and other departmental committees as directed.
• Participates in clinical training programs; licensed psychologists will enter the pool of available individual supervisors for the APA-approved psychology internship training program after 2 years of post-licensure experience.
• Works collaboratively with campus partners to support both clinical and programmatic needs of students and learners, with a particular focus on crisis intervention and case management services.
• Participates in MHS recruitment and hiring processes.
• Completes documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of anti-oppression, inclusive excellence and diversity through involvement and participation in university and division-wide projects and initiatives.
• Specialized training and/or experience with crisis intervention and case management is strongly preferred.
• Specialized training, interest, and/or experience working with one or more diverse populations is strongly preferred; examples include Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color. (BIPOC) identified students, the LGBTQ+ community, first-generation and/or limited income students, international students, and students who identify as disabled, gender diverse, and on the neurodivergence spectrum.
• Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
• Experience independently executing psycho-educational presentations, programs and events for a wide audience.
• Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

Additional Information

• This is a 37.5 hour/week position. One evening clinic per week (telehealth only until 7pm) may be required.
• This position requires evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.).
• This position requires 5 days/week on-site due to crisis coverage responsibilities.
• This is a 12-month position.

• This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, designated as vital to the operation of a work group, so may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical experience.
• Independently licensed as a mental health provider in primary required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description prior to start date; licensure in additionally required jurisdiction(s) required within 6 months of hire.
• Substitution/Equivalency -Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology from an APA accredited program and completion of an APA internship. If eligibility is based on a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology, post-grad experience is not required to meet the minimum qualifications. Recent doctoral graduate hires must obtain licensure as a psychologist in a minimum of one required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description within 12 months of hire; licensure in additional required jurisdictions required within 2 years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree (DSW, Ph.D., Psy.D. or relevant terminal degree) from an accredited program.
• Licensed as a psychologist in required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description or license-eligible (must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).
• Clinical experience in a university setting strongly preferred.
