Job Summary: The Library Technical Services Assistant performs library duties that require limited judgment in the application of policies and procedures within the area of assignment. Provides a wide variety of technical duties and customer assistance in support of library services in an operational unit or section of a university library. Uses library's automation system, various software packages, conventional library materials, and office equipment. May oversee the work of students and volunteers. Exercises judgment in the interpretation and application of library practices, rules, and regulations.
Additional Department Summary: The Library Technical Services Assistant collaborates with and supports the supervisor and administration by participating in and contributing to all activities of The University Libraries Archival Facility in providing patron and library services, facilitating continued high standards, and achieving the Libraries Mission and Strategic Plan. Supervises the facility student assistants. Contributes to designing and coordinating the transfer of materials from branch libraries. Supervises day-to-day activities of pickup and delivery of materials from and to the branch libraries. Creates and adjusts workflows and procedures. Monitors all aspects of space utilization. Works collaboratively with faculty and staff across University Libraries as the Archival Facility is involved in many functional areas including circulation, cataloging, public services, and collection and record management. Demonstrates commitment to providing high quality services and work product to academic library patrons and administration, aptitude at innovating and providing added value to services, affinity working amongst a small team-oriented staff with varying perspectives, and ease at offering alternate ideas and honest constructive criticism.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of library experience; OR associate's degree or higher and some library experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 19 years of age and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and achieve goals. Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative setting. Advanced knowledge in Voyager, CaiaSoft, ILLiad, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), microform digitization equipment and software, flatbed scanner and software, Counting Opinions statistical reporting interface, and BuyBAMA purchasing interface. Knowledge of safety protocols for using order-picker forklift.
Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of progressively responsible library archival facility experience; OR associate degree and four (4) years of progressively responsible library archival facility experience; OR Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible library archival facility experience. Experience managing transfer of library materials from existing library locations to archival facilities including records management, adherence to established industry standards, and proper preservation.
