What To Expect
Consider before submitting an application: This position is expected to start around May 2025 and continue through the Summer term (approximately August 2025) or into Fall 2025 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla’s Abuse Functional Safety Team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and reliability of Tesla vehicles and energy products, particularly under extreme and unexpected conditions. Our mission is to detect and analyze safety-critical events, optimize engineering responses, and improve product safety through innovative methods and tools. The team collaborates across engineering disciplines to monitor, evaluate, and enhance safety systems, with a focus on proactively identifying risks and ensuring a robust product safety framework.
As an intern, you will work on critical safety-related projects that require a combination of data analysis, software development, and system optimization. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in designing tools and workflows to enhance Tesla’s safety monitoring and event detection capabilities.
What You'll Do Develop automated pipelines to scrape internal and external sources (e.g., websites, APIs, and databases) Design and implement workflows using tools such as SQL, Python, Spark, and Airflow to support daily data ingestion and analysis Develop interactive visualizations and dashboards to analyze safety-critical data using Python and Apache Superset, enabling clear insights into trends and patterns Building an intelligent data pipeline to search for predefined rules and/or observed patterns to better understand critical failure modes in the field Building out an infrastructure to quantify and visualize key metrics for Tesla energy products
What You'll Bring Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Git Familiarity with APIs and Frontend Familiarity with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) Experience with web scraping techniques and tools such as Selenium, BeautifulSoup, or similar Nice to have: Machine Learning, Distributed Computing (Spark/Hive/Hadoop), Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, REST APIs, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with large datasets to derive meaningful insights

Expected Compensation
$20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
