Job Title: Associate General Counsel

Exceptional company seeking exceptional people! This position is responsible for providing legal guidance on a variety of matters concerning an independent mortgage company. In addition to advising on employment and regulatory matters, counsel will also be responsible for negotiating, writing, reviewing, summarizing, researching and executing a wide variety of agreements for the company and internal clients.
As an Attorney, you will: - Negotiate, write, and execute agreements and contracts.
- Offer counsel on a variety of legal issues including employment, corporate governance, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with executives and employees to achieve common goals.
- Identify and communicate legal risks and available mitigation strategies.
- Explain legal language in agreements, regulations and statutes.
- Research unique legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates.
- Perform pre-litigation work, including conducting investigations and assembling relevant documents, to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
- Assist in state, agency, and investor audits as needed, in conjunction with the Chief Compliance Officer.
- Respond to escalated post-closing issues and repurchase requests.
- Provide training to company and its affiliates on substantive legal topics.

- Ability to think creatively while dealing with complex, multifaceted issues
- Approachable and comfortable working with all levels of management and staff.
- Strong legal writing & research skills.
- Ability to multi-task & prioritize effectively.
- Litigation experience a plus.
- Knowledge of the mortgage industry and/or consumer financial services a plus.
Computer Skills: -Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, typing, etc.)
- Knowledge of Encompass, Questsoft and/or other mortgage technology platforms a plus!
Education & Experience: • Extensive working knowledge of the legal field
• A Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution
Certifications, Licenses, etc Admitted to the Bar of the State of Connecticut
Hours for position: M-F 9am-5pm
This position may require frequent additional hours, at times on a daily basis; must be available to work additional hours on short notice as determined by management to meet customer service and investor requirements
