The Lakota Waldorf School is a K-8 th grade school serving the children of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the Southwestern corner of South Dakota. We are situated approx. 90 miles Southeast of Rapid City surrounded by the beautiful rolling plains.
Position Description Summary : This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week during the 9-month school year. This individual will be part of a team of teachers seeking excellence in teaching the children in the lower and middle grades. The primary responsibility for this position is to teach the 1 st & 2 nd grade students with appropriate support from specialist subject teachers.
At Lakota Waldorf, all teachers attend weekly Lakota Language classes to support their integration of the language in the daily classroom.
Teaching positions: Our mission is to provide a Waldorf education integrated with Lakota language and culture, enabling Lakota children to create positive futures for themselves and their communities. All teachers participate in our inhouse teacher training, the Academy for Indigenous Waldorf Pedagogy. For trained Waldorf teachers, it will be a helpful support to adjust and become familiar with teaching at Lakota Waldorf School.
This position provides room and board. The school serves mostly heathy organic meals to the children and staff. The remote location of the Lakota Waldorf School is ideal for outdoor activities, we have an organic school garden and are surrounded by nature. The children love to be involved in gardening and taking care of our animals.
